Senior Support (Championship) on the GSX-R750 Club Bike.
Qualifying:
Due to bad
weather there was no qualifying and grid positions were
based on the current championship table, therefore I
started from 3rd.
Result:
4th
From 3rd I
got a good start leading away from the line, but I was
passed by Dean Harrison into the first corner. We raced
towards Dunlop’s leap only to be met by a marshal in the
middle of the road, luckily we missed him and the race
was red flagged. At the restart I got away first again
only to be passed by Dean Harrison again, after the
second lap Shaun Anderson passed me and arm pump became
an issue. On the fourth lap it became severe and Alan
Bonner got by me, I then settled in for a safe 4th
place. Next up Dunmanway. #5 Paul Barron

Mid Antrim 150 Races:
Race entered:
Senior Support (Championship) on the GSX-R750 Club Bike.
Qualifying:
Due to bad
weather there was no qualifying and grid positions were
based on the current championship table, therefore I
started from 3rd.
Result:
8th
I started
from 3rd on the grid, with a wet front and intermediate
rear on a drying track. Under the trees on some parts of
the circuit were very wet. From the start I led up to the
first corner but I overshot, filtering back into the
pack in 8th position. This completely put me off my
rhythm and I found it difficult to learn the circuit with
all corners with blue air bales all looking the same,
all I can do is put it down to a bad experience and look
forward to Armoy. #5 Paul Barron

Kells International Road Races:
Races entered:
Senior Support (Championship & Non Championship) on the GSX-R750 Club Bike.
Qualifying:
5th
Result:
Racing
at Kells was abandoned after the third race due to
adverse weather conditions, therefore the senior
support race did not take place.
Walderstown:
Races entered:
Senior Support (Championship & Non Championship) on the GSX-R750 Club Bike.
Qualifying:
Due to bad
weather there was no qualifying. We did have untimed
practice. Grid positions were based on championship
positions and with some competitors not entered I was
given 4th position in the championship race and 3rd
position (I don’t know why?) in the non-championship
race.
Result:
1st
Place in both races
I started
okay, but was last away from the line. I had a good
drive to the first corner and secured second behind Alan
Bonner at this point. I stayed behind Bonner until lap
4, learning the lines and watching for any weaknesses in
Bonners riding. On each of the laps up to then I made
him aware I was there by showing him my front wheel on
the inside on each occasion into the first corner,
therefore he was riding very defensively on that side,
so he anticipated this move again on the 4th lap, but I
passed him on the outside and never looked back taking
my first win of the season and full points by 0.3 sec.
In the non-championship race I got a great start leading
going down the straight only to be passed by Bonner on
the inside into the first corner. We held this position
until I slip streamed and passed him on the main
straight, staying ahead for the rest of the race and
again winning but this time by a bigger margin of
2.5secs.
Next up is the Kells International Road Race this weekend,
see you all there!! #5 Paul Barron

The Skerries 100:
Races entered:
Senior Support on the GSX-R750 Club Bike.
Qualifying:
2nd
Place
The weather
for the Friday qualifying session was dry and overcast
although there was a threat of rain, which held off. The
senior support qualifying was divided into two groups,
with a clear session for each group. I was in the first
session and qualified on provisional pole with 1:48.5, a
full second ahead of Richard McLoughlin. The second
session provided the overall pole position with Skerries
local, David Yeomans recording a 1:46.7, nearly two
seconds ahead of myself, but I was still second when the
two sessions were combined. (Click
here for practice table)
Result:
2nd
Place
The race
day was dry and I got a good start holding onto my
second place, but now with Yomo in front of me I had
something to aim for and sure enough I passed him going
into Finnegans, staying ahead with a 0.5 sec. lead by
the end of the first lap. Arm pump got the better of me
and Yomo passed me going into glasshouses on the second
lap, I held firm in second spot for the rest of the
race, with no dramas finishing 1.6 secs behind at the
chequered flag and 0.5 sec ahead of third place Craig
Shirlaw. We, the top three were 20 seconds ahead of the
next group.
Next up, Walderstown July 10th/11th, See you all
there!!!

The Cookstown 100:
Races entered:

Qualifying:
6th
Place
(demoted to back of grid by stewards)
The weather
for the Friday qualifying session was dry and sunny
although there was a few spots of rain in the air before
my session. I quickly got into the session (considering
I had never raced here before). I unofficially qualified
6th fastest, but I was subsequently called before the
stewards to explain my exuberant accelerating which
caused me to lift the front end existing the corners,
they did not accept my explanation that it was
unintentional so I was demoted to the back of the grid
for the race.
Result:
10th
Place
The race
day was dry and I got a great start from the back of the
grid, getting up to 5th place by the end of the second
lap. On the third lap my lack of fitness started to show
as I suffered from arm pump which caused me to loose
feeling in my hands. I backed off deciding that getting
it home safely was the best policy, I finished 10th
ending a very productive meeting.
I was very happy with the bike, which didn't miss a beat
and was easy to set up. My fitness on the other hand
needs some serious attention, so I will be on a strict
regime for the the Bush Races in June, but the potential
is there for some good results! #5 Paul Barron
